According to Cancer Research UK, research suggests that cervical cancer will not spread faster in a pregnant mother than in a woman or a mother who is not pregnant.

Medical professionals highlight that Cervical cancer may not cause complications directly. However, the cancer treatments may have a negative effect on the pregnancy.

Cervical cancer may have a negative impact on pregnant mothers as :

  • delayed treatment
  • cancer may spread to other areas of the body
  • hemorrhaging during delivery
  • breaking of the tumor during delivery
  • risk of embolism

A mother who is pregnant or in the postpartum period should talk to her doctor  if she experience any unexplained symptoms, such as vaginal bleeding or discharge.
